In Diana Ali's work Food is used to portray metaphors of decaying and discarded material and also as an untraditional material in a traditional format. Indian spices are used as a substitute for paint applied to a canvas commenting on the Eastern influences within Western cultures. Jam is used to convey a visceral element and chocolate is smeared over the body to depict an invasion of modesty but also an indulgence of sexuality.  The work engages the audience visually but more intriguingly through the sense of smell allowing the audience to decipher its interpretations through an alternative sense.
